CORNWALL CROQUET CLUB TROPHY PRESENTATION AND END-OF-SEASON PARTY

 On Sunday 25th October nearly forty members of the Cornwall Croquet Club gathered at Porthpean to celebrate the end of a very-successful season, and to present various trophies for some of the club's tournaments. Throughout the afternoon, both Association and Golf Croquet were played on the four half lawns. With the sun shining, this was a fitting way to mark the end of the official season, even though play will continue through the winter when the weather is suitable.

 Before asking the club President to present the various awards, the Chairman, Ron George, commented on the successes of the year, including winning the SW Federation Shield and getting to the final of the Federation Golf-Croquet Competition.

Various competitions have been running throughout the year, including the Ladder Competitions for each discipline – won by Tony Backhouse, Association Croquet (AC) and Barry Edwards, Golf Croquet (GC) – the two Knock-out Singles – won by David Edwards (AC) and Peter Dexter(GC) – and the AC American Blocks – won by John Dowding. A new competition, introduced this year, involved AC Level Play (No handicap allowances used), which was won by Richard Griffiths. Richard also won both the President’s Cups – one for a level-play Golf Tournament, and one for an Association Tournament played to level-play, advanced rules: this being for the players with low handicaps. A trophy to encourage ‘Positive Play’ was won by Stephen Read. The President, Howard Rosevear, thanked all those who have worked hard, throughout the season, to keep the lawns in such good condition, to mow them and to organise so many things and successful events. The afternoon ended with a sumptuous tea provided by members.
